The Pearson Test of English Academic
PTE Academic is a computer-based academic English language test aimed at assessing non-native English speakers’ Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing abilities of those wanting to study abroad. Aside from being one of the requirements during admission processing, it often serves as a proof of language ability for visa application. It focuses on daily and real-life usage of the English language in an academic environment. This primarily helps to prepare students on a variety of languages they will encounter in various English- speaking universities or colleges.
There are many distinguishing features of the PTE Academic from other close competitors – IELTS and TOEFL. The first and foremost distinguishing feature of this test exam is the scoring pattern and results. As the tests are completely computer-based, tests takers see their results in earnest, typically in five (5) business days. This positions students who are seemingly in a bit of rush resolve their admission application in due time.
PTE Academic is endorsed by, and the preferred test of GMAC® — the owners of the Graduate Management Admission Test® (GMAT®). The test is recognized by top universities and colleges worldwide and is officially approved by the UK Border Agency for Tiers 1, 2 and 4 visa applications.
The Pearson Test of English General
(Formerly referred to as The London Test of English). These are designed to reward positive achievement in English language learning and proficiency. The tests consist of two parts: a written paper and an interview session.
The general test is made up of six levels.
Test Duration?
The exam is a three-hour long computer-based test which measures students’ ability on day to day English language usage rather than high-level English language. It tests students on how well the effectively understand the English language as used daily. The multi-level grading system ensures a better understanding of the student’s proficiency in the English language.
Question format
Questions are often arranged in a combined form involving two skills, such as listening and reading or reading and speaking. The entire test takes a single session, lasting 3 hours and in a conducive and secure test environment. The speaking part involves a session where your speech is recorded and sent for grading.
Cost
The cost varies by country but is in the range of $150-$210.
PTE Academic is a multi-level test, like IELTS, TOEFL and TOEIC.
WHO ACCEPTS PTE?
The test is highly recognized and accepted internationally for admissions into various programs. PTE Academic acceptance includes top UK universities, top US universities and government organizations.
Since it’s a proficiency test exam, at least one month of good preparation is required.
